Things to consider before you look for a dental provider for your child
Every child should have a medical and dental home – a place where they regularly receive care. A dental home, or regular source of dental care, is where your child receives regular preventive care, and other dental care as needed. Remember you, your child and your dentist are going to be partners in maintaining your child’s oral health. Dental care is a very personalized service that requires a good relationship between the dentist and the patient. You can ask family, friends, neighbors or co-workers for recommendations abut dental providers. If you are moving to a new area, your current dentist may be able to recommend a dental provider.
As you consider dental providers, keep in mind that not all dentists are enrolled Medicaid providers. Of those who are enrolled Medicaid dental providers, you may find some are not accepting new patients. You may have to contact a number of dental providers in your area.
Other things to consider
- Is the appointment schedule convenient for you?
- Is the office easy to get to from your home or job?
- Does the office appear to be clean, neat and orderly?
- Is your dentist a member of the American Dental Association (ADA)? All ADA member dentists voluntarily agree to abide by the high ethical standards reflected in the ADA Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct as a condition of their membership.
